Description
Are you looking for a fun and engaging Thanksgiving writing prompt to keep the students happily writing in the weeks before the Thanksgiving holiday?
(The unexpected twist of an alien kidnapping Grandma for her famous recipe is a topic the students found so funny that even my most reluctant writer dove into writing this Thanksgiving adventure.)
This Creative Writing and Vocabulary product is a fun, (somewhat silly) creative writing project for your students to use during this Thanksgiving holiday season. This holiday adventure is intended as an extended writing project and should take close to a week, or more, to complete and can easily fit within the writing workshop model. Following the steps allows teachers to help their students increase their vocabulary usage in their writing.
Creative Writing and Vocabulary steps focus on front-loading vocabulary so reluctant writers have a solid bank of words and phrases, even story starters, to help keep them engaged and supported throughout the writing process. Using both audio and visual stimuli helps hook the writer from the beginning. The word bank gives additional support.

Struggling students are more actively engaged when they can feel successful. Grouping writing activities together with similar themes so students can pull from a known bank of words helps.
Thanksgiving Team writing helps fill in gaps of time that happen frequently around the holiday season.
