This “Spooky House” writing prompt has everything you need, from suggested lesson plans to publishing pages and everything in between. This Adventure writing is intended as an extended writing project and should take close to a week or more to complete and can easily fit within the writing workshop model. Following the steps by front-loading vocabulary allows teachers to help their students increase their vocabulary usage in their writing while also strengthening their classroom community and writing engagement.
Creative Writing and Vocabulary steps focus on front-loading vocabulary so reluctant writers have a solid bank of words and phrases, even story starters, to help keep them engaged and supported throughout the writing process. Using both audio and visual stimuli helps hook the writer from the beginning. I love watching my students excited about writing because they feel they can be successful and are excited to create their own stories.
