Writing About Plants – Is a Tree a Plant?

Are you looking for ways to add more writing about plants into your primary classroom Science lessons? Are you helping your students learn about plants in the classroom? This resource was created because all of my students did not connect ‘plants’ to ‘trees.’
 
This easy-to-use resource is created to help guide students to understand that trees are also plants. Report templates are created to so teachers can scaffold support in the classroom to support the individual learner. Work through the life cycle of an oak tree together. Label the parts of an oak tree, discover the changes in the different seasons, and color in the life cycle steps. Then allow students to work independently to complete a similar report page on an apple tree.

Label the parts of an oak tree, discover the changes in the different seasons, and color in the life cycle steps. Then allow students to work independently to complete a similar report page on an apple tree.
 
Also included are handwriting practice, vocabulary, Venn diagram, and t-chart activities that can be done in small group, whole class, or seat work depending on the needs of the students.
 
Children love showing what they know. Templates for each tree report page are similar, so the students already feel confident in completing the second one independently. This will allow teachers to see immediately where any misunderstandings still linger.
