Description
Are you looking for a fun and engaging Thanksgiving writing prompt to take your students through the writing process?
This is the traditional Thanksgiving story with a twist of an alien abduction and a rescue of Grandma. The novelty of the storyline keeps the kids laughing and working on this extended writing product. Then story presentations or author chair read-aloud around the holiday are perfect for budding authors.
This Creative Writing and Vocabulary product is a funny (somewhat silly) creative writing project for your students during this Thanksgiving holiday. It breaks away from the usual story of thanks to an alien abduction of Grandma because the aliens have heard of her famous dessert and want it but don’t know how to ask. This holiday adventure is intended as an extended writing project and should take close to a week or more to complete and can easily fit within the writing workshop model. Following the steps allows teachers to help their students increase their vocabulary usage in their writing.
Creative Writing and Vocabulary steps focus on front-loading vocabulary so reluctant writers have a solid bank of words and phrases, even story starters, to help keep them engaged and supported throughout the writing process. Using both audio and visual stimulus helps hook the writer from the beginning. The accompanying word bank is used for additional support.
